Course objectives
The aim of the course is to provide basic orientation in the field of socially pathological phenomena. Students will acquire basic terminology and knowledge leading to the ability to analyze these phenomena in practice. The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the spectrum of theories of socio-pathological phenomena, with the historical and current conception of the most common social pathological phenomena and the characteristics of the process of the origin of these phenomena. Within the framework of the subject, it is essential to acquire the knowledge and skills that graduates can apply especially in the field of intervention, eventually in therapeutic action, in solving selected pathological phenomena. The students will be acquainted with the current possibilities of intervention of selected socially pathological phenomena in the Czech Republic and abroad. An important part of the subject will be also the issue of the quality of life of people with pathological manifestations of behavior, outlines the ways of improving the quality of life and the possibility of integration of these persons. The course aims at the interconnection of theoretical and practical education of current and future workers in various fields of work with persons with socially pathological manifestations of behavior (Police of the Czech Republic, prison, preventive activities, social assistants, curators, probation and mediators, NGO staff with a focus on People with addictions, etc.).
Expected outcomes:
• The student is orientated in the terminology and basic theories of social pathological manifestations of behavior.
• The student can analyze the most frequent manifestations of social pathological behavior and recognize possible ways of their intervention.
• The student knows different approaches to socially pathological manifestations of behavior in the field of prevention and intervention, therapeutic effect.
Syllabus
  • Contemporary concept of pathology versus behavioral disorders; Theory of socio-pathological phenomena in history and present; Quality of life, social exclusion, stigmatization.
  • Terminology of the field of course, methods of investigation of socially pathological phenomena; Hazardous and vulnerable population groups.
  • Prevention and therapy of socially pathological phenomena.
  • System of organizations helping people in difficult life situations (state and NGOs), interdisciplinary cooperation, case management.
  • Aggression and violence; Concept of aggression, aggression theory, types of aggression, hostility.
  • Bullying, mobbing; Violence in mass performances; Spectator violence; Aggressive work programs.
  • Problems in Behavioral and Behavioral Disorders Beginning in Adolescence with Overlapping to Adulthood (ADHD, ADD, ODD, etc.).
  • Adults based on institutional education, transition to independent life from the IP / OV environment and its pitfalls (half-way homes, self-development programs).
  • Socially pathological phenomena related to the family environment and close relationships (domestic violence, dating violence, stalking), DN solutions - social services (intervention centers, asylum homes, etc.) and the non-profit sector.
  • Domestic violence against children; CAN syndrome, consequences of DN.
  • Suicide; Self-harm.
  • Risk Subculture of Contemporary Society.
