Course objectives
The course is designed as preparation for the exam in the discipline   Russian syntax 1. The aim of the course is to practice and complement the lectures of discussed curriculum, enhance the knowledge of the Russian punctuation, expanding knowledge about the syntax of the confrontational aspect, developing communication skills in written and oral expression.
Learning outcomes
At the end of this course the student will be able to interpret syntactic phenomena of contemporary Russian, compare track simple phrases and sentences in Russian and English, use the information to the proper formation of Russian sentences, correctly use punctuation in writing.
Syllabus
  • 1.Syntactical units. Similarities and differences between the Russian and Czech languages.
  • 2. The sentence simple. The kinds of sentences according to the communicative intent, confrontation with Czech sentences.
  • 3. Negative sentences. Their specifics and translation into Czech and vice versa.
  • 4. The main sentence elements: subject and predicate. Problems of translation sentences with expressed and unexpressed subject. Determining the types of predicates.
  • 5. Emerging of sentence elements: attribute and annex. Differences and understanding between the Russian and Czech. Methods for expression of annexes in Russian.
  • 6. The direct and indirect object. The direct object in negative sentences. Supplement. Methods for expression. Translation structures with complement to Czech.
  • 7. Adverbial: classification, methods of expression. Punctuation in sentences with some types of adverbial.
  • 8. Classification of one-element sentences. One-element sentences in Russian in comparison with   Czech.
  • 9. Complex sentences: syntactic analysis, specifics of Czech translations of sentences into Russian.
  • 10. Determining the type of coordinate sentences. Differences between Russian and Czech.
  • 11. Analysis of complex sentences. Specifics of complex sentences in Russian in comparison with Czech.
  • 12. Asyndetical sentences. Punctuation in asyndetical sentences.
