- Course objectives
- The goal is to practice the acquired knowledge from the subject of the historical development of Russian 1; on the application of knowledge in the analysis of selected Old Russian texts and the monitoring of phonetic and morphological features characteristic of the old Russian. In addition, special attention is paid to the comparative aspects of old Russian and old Czech language.
- Learning outcomes
- At the end of this course students will learn basic concepts and categories of disciplines, analyze the phonetic and morphological diachronic changes in Russian, interconnect formerly acquired knowledge from the linguistic disciplines (phonology, morphology and lexicology) with the acquired knowledge of the subject; understand the work Old Russian texts.
- Syllabus
- 1. Basic concepts and categories discipline. Archetypes and the current form of words.
- 2. Old Slavonic and Russian language. Identification Old Slavonic words in contemporary Russian.
- 3. Comparison of the main features characteristic of the East Slavic group of languages.
- 4. Yers. Identifying weak and strong positions in the word.
- 5. Tracing the development of the consonant correlation and depalatalisation.
- 6. Analysis of prosodic means. The emergence of akanye and ikanye.
- 7. Determining the chokanye, dzekanye, tsokanye in Russian.
- 8. Nouns. Analysis of grammatical categories.
- 9. Old Russian declension of nouns.
- 10. Adjectives. Declension of different adjective forms in Old Russian.
- 11. The comparative forms of adjectives.

- Seminar. The student must regulary prepare for the seminar and do required home assignments. Individual and group work.

- The requirements: 1. regular active participation in the class; 2. continuous assessment and doing the required home assignments based on the learned theory and terminology; 3. final test at the end of course based on the work done in the class.
