- Cíle předmětu
- Course Grammar 2A deals with English grammar at intermediate level.
The objectives are
- to systemize the students' knowledge of grammar at intermediate level with the focus on context
- to deepen and develop the students' knowledge of grammar at intermediate level (the course is a follow-up of the preceding course, Grammar 1B, and deals with the parts of speech as listed in the Course contents)
- to develop the students' own knowledge and competence with the focus on the ability to use the language correctly
- to enhance the students' autonomy and independence which is important for their future professional life
- to lead the students towards realizing the specifics of the age group they are to teach in the future as well as the need and importance of their own expertise and accuracy
At the end of the course the students should be able to:
- use the particular features correctly and independently
- compare the particular features regarding their form and meaning
- create their own analogical examples
- identify frequent problems and errors that students make - Osnova
- Grammar issues covered (based on Macmillan Grammar in Context - Units 27-48); The topics of Units 1-26 were covered in Grammar 1B course • 1. Countability - count vs. non-count nouns; meaning vs. grammar (two different meanings of the same word - countable vs. uncountable); partitives; 's genitive vs. of construction; noun+noun sequence • 2. Articles with common and proper nouns; generic vs. specific reference; article use in fixed phrases • 3. Quantity 1 - some, any and their compounds; much vs. many; few vs. little; enough • 4. Quantity 2 - none, all, each vs. every; Pronouns - subj. vs. obj. forms of personal pronouns; emphatic vs. basic use of reflexive pronouns; • 5. Adjectives, Adverbs - order of adjectives in a noun phrase; -ed vs. -ing adjectives; intensifiers; adverb formation • 6. Making Comparisons - comparatives and superlatives, • 8. Prepositions of place • 9. Prepositions of time • 10.Phrasal verbs • 11.Conjunctions • 12. Relative clauses - defining vs. non-definining • 13. Purpose and result - infinitive of purpose + other ways of expressing purpose; expressing result (so, such ... that)

- lectures, seminar work - class, group and pair work, homework, drills, observations
The students prepare for the lessons on their own, they study the particular topics which are then practised in the seminar with the option to ask further questions.
They also work on a teaching practice task and their journal which reflects their individual work. - Metody hodnocení
- Credit requirements: assigned homework (self-study, extra activities in handouts); active participation in class; journal; 1 written progress test; teaching practice task; credit test - pass mark 70 %. Students need to collect at least 140 points during the semester: Journal 0 - 25 pts; TPT 0 - 25 pts; Progress Test 0 - 50 pts; Credit Test 0 - 100 pts.
