- Cíle předmětu
- The aim of the course is to introduce essential narratological concepts to the students in English, familiarize them with basic theories and methods in the study of narrative. The course objective is to outline in this context: 1) short history of narrative theory and narratology in the context of study of literature in the 20th century, 2) the main concepts of narrative theory (e.g. story, narrative, narration etc.), 3) basic theories and methods using in the study of narrative, 4) the structure of narrative, 5) the main components of narrative, 6) the surface of narrative, 7) text, narrative and fictional world. Students will learn about basic secondary literature which will enable them to complete and extend preceding lectures.
- Výstupy z učení
- Having finished the course the students will acquire general and also specific knowledge regarding narratological theories and concepts in English. They will be able to view the potential of the narratological approach offer for an analysis and interpretation of particular literary artworks. The students will be able to interpret narrative texts as well as justify and support their views using their knowledge of narrative studies. They will get an insight into basic terminology, theories and methods using in the study of narrative, and they will be able to apply it.

- Výukové metody
- Lecture, tutorial, e-learning (study materials, an anthology of texts). Students will further develop their knowledge and interpretational skills with the aim to communicate with a narrative work more efficiently. They will use their knowledge gained not only in the classes but also in their individual study of study materials (e-learning) and recommended literature which they will be able to discuss regularly with their teacher.
- Metody hodnocení
- Credit requirements: students pass the final test which contains questions related to the topics listed in the syllabus. The test is scored. Students must obtain at least 70 % right answers.
