Course objectives
The course aims to help beginning student teachers to gain elementary orientation in the academic environment and raise their awareness and sensitivity to specific aspects of (namely written) communication in the professional community. Upon finishing the course, the students will be able to enter into communication with other members of academia and of the professional community. They will be oriented within the structure of academic pedagogical disciplines. They will understand the role of the diploma thesis in the curriculum of teachers' professional development and the lege artis strategies of reading and writing academic texts.
Learning outcomes
Upon finishing the course the students are able to understand the rules and ethics of academic communication.
Syllabus
  • The course introduces beginnig teacher students into the academic environment. General principles as well as specific aspects of academic communication in pedagogy and didactics are addressed and discussed. Students are acquainted with the structure of pedagogical fields and with the ways in which didactic disciplines are developed. The discussed topics include: Pedagogy (educational sciences) as a discipline; communication in the academia, academic writing and academic texts; Czech and European professional journals; ethical aspects of academic writing; plagiarism.

Individual and group consultations with frequent references to authentic academic texts.

Colloquium - a group discussion about issues covered in the syllabus.
