- Course objectives
- Students get acquainted with basic definitions and terminology and acquire knowledge about the main currents of development in art theory.
- Learning outcomes
- The student acquires knowledge about the essence of the field, knows the basic terminology, personalities, methodological concepts and developmental stages of art theory.

- • Theory of art as a part of theoretical thinking of ancient antiquity • Marabilia, ekfrasis, travelogues and the beginnings of descriptions and interpretations of works of art • Recipes and descriptions of technologies in the Renaissance and Enlightenment • Lives of celebrities - biographical concept of theory • The birth of art theory in the 19th century - Vienna School • Erwin Panofsky and Ernst Gombrich • Postmodernism and its representatives
