Course objectives
The course objectives are to provide students with literary-theoretical essentials necessary for their own reception and intepretation of literature for young adults. Having met the course requirements, students will be able to apply the terminology of literary science.
Syllabus
  • 1. Literature of the branch. 2. Classification of literature and literary science, basic terminology of literary science. 3. Literature and other written products, national and world literature. 4. Structure of a literary work, models of composition, characters, narrator. 5. Author and recipient of a literary work and their relation. 6. Introduction to the theory of verse. 7. Prosodic systems, rhythm and rhyme. 8. Linguistic means of a literary work I. 9. Linguistic means of a literary work II. 10. Literary types and genres. 11. Specifics of young adult literature. 12. Genre composition of young adult literature.

Teaching methods
Type of course: lecture. In the lectures, students learn and are informed about the terminology of the field of study and about the process of literary communication (with regards to the specifics of children’s and youth literature).
Assessment methods
Course requirements: examination. The written examination tests the essentials of the terminology of literary science and interpretational analysis of poetry and prose for children and young adults. Questions are open. The student will receive 10 partial marks, the average of which can not exceed 2.9 (mark E).
