- Cíle předmětu
- This course will enhance students‘ awareness of the functions and aspects of English, thus developing their skills, such as analytic thinking, creativity in designing lessons and teaching materials, and adapting learning content for practical needs, which are qualities essential for teaching profession.
The course introduces the basic concepts of English word-formation, lexical semantics, semantic relations between lexical units and the development and stratification of the English word-stock.
At the end of the course the students should be able to analyse the structure of a word and to understand and explain the word-frormation processes used in English, to explain the denotative and associative meaning of words and to make reasoned decisions about semantic relations holding between words in context, to explain and analyse the origins and development of the English vocabulary.
Throughout the semester students are encouraged to link theory in the classroom to practice at schools via practical tasks. - Výstupy z učení
- The students will be able to - understand linguistic terminology and use it when discussion vocabulary issues, - understands the word-formation processes in English and the semantic relations between lexical units; - use printed and electronic dictionaries and define the meaning of words adequately with regard to the level of proficiency and the age fo students, - use a language corpus for the development of teaching materials and for understanding the meaning of words, - understand the differences between the Czech and the English vocabularies, - implement the knowledge of lexicology for didactic purposes, e,g. for the development of teaching materials.
