- Course objectives
- The seminar in the form of selected chapters deals with the most important works and personalities of the earliest Czech literature. The basic epochs (from the 9th to the 18th century) are characterized, their genre and style specifics are outlined. Deeper insights into literary events will be made possible by a detailed analysis and interpretation of the artistic text. Students will be introduced to basic literature, allowing them to supplement and deepen their acquired knowledge. Students will further develop all of their literary and historical knowledge and interpretive skills in order to communicate more effectively with a literary work.

- Students will be able to identify, analyze and interpret basic literary works and genres of the earliest Czech literature.

- 1. Literature of the early Middle Ages (9th - 13th centuries); 2. Literature of the High Middle Ages (14th century); 3. Hussite and anti-Hussite literature (15th century); 4. Humanism, Renaissance and Reformation (16th and 17th centuries); 5. Evangelical Baroque; 6. Catholic Baroque.

- Teaching methods
- Students will acquire knowledge of literary trends and tendencies in the given period of Czech literature and its genre specificity. They will be encouraged to deepen their literary and historical knowledge and interpretive skills in order to communicate more effectively with literary works of older Czech literature. In doing so, they will make creative use of the knowledge gained both from direct teaching and through independent work with recommended literature, which they will be able to consult regularly with the teacher.

- Active participation in seminars (80%), and submission of a relevant text (essay) on the given topic.
