- Course objectives
- This course introduces students to the main concepts, problems, theories and methods of comparative literature. In the first part of the course, students will study the theoretical and methodological basis of comparative literature and they will also acquaint the history of comparative literature. In the second part of the course, students will enrich and systematise gained knowledge and competencies in the field of comparative literature by their own comparative research.
- Learning outcomes
- Students will be able to recognise and use the main comparative methods and theories in the field of literature, but also in other fields of culture and arts (e.g. film, theatre, fine arts). Students will be able to analyse and compare literary works of art across time periods, across genres, across national borders. They will be able to interpret literary works of art as well as justify and support their views using their knowledge of comparative literature.

- Teaching methods
- Students will get an insight into the main problems, theories, methods and approaches of comparative literature. Students will further develop their literary knowledge and comparative skills with the aim to communicate with a literary work of art more efficiently. They will use their knowledge gained not only in the classes and in their own research focused on cultural and literary relations, but also in their individual study of recommended literature which they will be able to discuss regularly with their teacher.

- Type of course: seminar. Type of completion: credit. Credit requirements: active participation in the seminars, attendance min. 80%, satisfactory seminar paper.
