- Course objectives
- The course contributes to basic orientation in the pedagogical and psychological terminology considering the historical context. It is the foundation for further studies in the field of pedagogy and psychology. The lecturers from the Department of Education and the Department of Psychology will alternate in the two-hour lessons and seminars. The aim of the course is to introduce basic terminology, philosophical and historical basis of education, general psychology and psychology of personality. The introduction is focused on pre-primary education.
- Learning outcomes
- After completing the course, the student will be able to:
understand the basics and terminology of education and psychology;
read common educational and psychological texts for teacher, understand them and think about them creatively;
distinguish between academic education and psychology knowledge and common popular education and psychology knowledge. - Syllabus
- Main topics of lectures:
- Pedagogy as a field of science, basic categories and terminology.
- Antique and Medieval Educatin.
- Modern pedagogical thinkers.
- Pedagogical reformism and the beginning of alternative schools at the turn of 19th and 20th century.
- 20th century, century of the child
- Child in kindergarten
- The Subject of psychology and its development. Conditionality of psyche. Consciousness, sensation and perception.
- Attention, memory, imagination. Thinking, problem solving.
- Thinking and speech. Intelligence, abilities. Creativity.
- Learning. Learning outcomes, types of learning. Volition and decision making.
- Personality – term, definition, structure and dynamics. Motivation, needs.
- Topics of seminars:
- Mutual introduction, students´expectations and needs.
- Pedagogy as a field of science – interactive work with a research text.
- Psychology as a field of science – a comparison of a popular and scientific text; characteristics of a scientific text.
- Personality and upbringing (inspiration by construct of temperament), reflecting students´ experiences.
- Understanding basic categories and terms in preschool education.
- Child in prehistoric and ancient times (socratic dialogue); medieval times - septem artes liberales.
- Child in texts of modern educational thinkers (J. A. Komenský, J. Locke, J. J. Rousseau, J. H. Pestalotzzi, F. Fröbel), readings
- The development of the concept of a child from 19th century (J. Dewey, E. Keyová, O. Decroly, M. Montessori, R. Steiner, H. Parkhurstová etc.), readings
