Course objectives
At the end of this course, students should be able to: (1) understand the rules of writing of biological papers; (2) elaborate text documents and presentations; (4) create different kinds of of text documments; (5) introduce their own projects and (6) their own results.
Syllabus
  • 1. introduction: main objectives of the subject and student s projects (themes)
  • 2. presentations of the projects and discussions
  • 3. principles of thesis creation – basic design (heads)
  • 4. technical design of thesis, citation of sources, references in text, most often mistakes
  • 5. methods of finding resources: Internet, key-words, etc.
  • 6. Preparation of the first version of reference list
  • 7. Preparation of the first version of "Introduction" or another part of thesis, e.g. "Characteristics of natural conditions of an area" or "Valuation of knowledge level" etc.
  • 8. Preparation of the first version of "Material and methods" (site descriptions, methods of sampling, ...)
  • 9. Preparation of PPT presentation and fundamentals of oral presentations of thesis results
  • 10. Presentations of student s works – oral PPT presentations of the projects and discussions (participation on the departamental conference)

Teaching methods
Seminary, i.e. combination of theoretical preparation (lectures of tutor) with student´s presentations (PPT) and with submission of their own works (text documments).
Assessment methods
Preconditions for credit: active participation on lessons, including introductory and final presentation of project and creation of first versions of reference list and selected parts of prepared thesis work.
