- Course objectives
- In the course the students will work with selected books for children and youth which deal with the topics of psychohygiene, emotional education, mindfulness and relaxation techniques; its aim is to acquire knowledge of books for children and youth which deal with the psychological aspects of children's feelings and understanding of emotions.
- Learning outcomes
- During the course, students will be introduced to an overview of selected works of literature for children and youth which focus on the topics of emotional education and psychohygiene, and they will become aware of the connections between literature and psychology with the development of children's thinking, psychosocial and moral development of children and adolescents or coping with crisis and stress.
- Syllabus
- 1. Definition of basic concepts related to the topics of psychohygiene, emotional education, mindfulness and relaxation techniques; concepts related to the psychological aspects of children's feelings, understanding of emotions and how to deal with them. 2. Variable characterization of stress and resilience in the history of psychohygiene, basic relaxation techniques (deep breathing, imagination, body scan, noticing sounds, nature...) 3. Literary picture of children's experience and coping with emotions in prose for children and youth. 4. Selected books for children and youth which aim to provide children with basic awareness of psychology, emotions, stress and crisis management. 5.-10. Selected works with the topics of psychohygiene in literature for children and youth: stress and relaxation, resilience; imagination; mindfulness; crisis and its phases (E. K. Ross, E. Erikson), depiction in literature for children and youth; fear, shame and other emotions, emotional development; disease and hospitals - stories (not only) for sick children; publications for children focused on the topic of the end of life (published by Cesta domů publishing house).

- Teaching methods
- The content of the course will be delivered through lectures with practical examples of psychohygiene techniques.
- Assessment methods
- A colloquial discussion with student´s own reflection and a presentation of a selected book for children and youth which deals with the topic of psychohygiene, emotional education, mindfulness, relaxation techniques or work with stress and crisis.
