Course objectives
The aim of the course is to introduce students to the potential and limits of large language models with respect to academic writing and to practice the ethical and effective use of large language models and other AI tools at different stages of writing academic texts and to support this process.
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to: describe the potential and limits of large language models with respect to academic writing; ethically and effectively use large language models and other AI tools at various stages of academic writing and to support this process.
Syllabus
  • The course consists of six thematic units:
  • 1) The potential and limitations of large language models with an emphasis on academic writing;
  • 2) Ethical aspects of the use of AI in academic writing and related issues of scientific integrity, creativity and originality.
  • 3) How to work smart with large language models at different stages of academic writing.
  • 4) AI tools to research and process English language academic texts.
  • 5) AI and academic writing support services – translation, proofreading, interview transcripts, literature organization.
