- Course objectives
- The objective of the course is to present the basic knowledge about this area and the knowledge required for a deeper understanding of these socially pathological phenomena in a psychological context.
- Learning outcomes
- Upon completion of the course the students will:
- Be familiar with the issue of addictive behaviour and various types of addictions,
- Be able to understand the psychological context of these pathological phenomena,
- Be able to interpret the protective and risk factors of addictive behaviour,
- Understand various types and forms of addictive behaviour. - Syllabus
- 1. Addictive behaviour and addiction – Introduction I (basic concepts);
- 2. Addictive behaviour and addiction – Introduction II (psychological context);
- 3. Risk and protective factors of addictions;
- 4. Forms of addictive behaviour;
- 5. Alcohol addiction. Development of alcohol addiction, types of alcoholism, implications;
- 6. Alcoholism and the family. Prevention of alcoholism;
- 7. Addiction to non-alcoholic substances. Emergence and development of addictions, typical manifestations of non-alcohol drug abuse, implications;
- 8. Drug addiction and the family. Prevention of drug addiction;
- 9. Pathological gambling, risk factors, emergence, development and social consequences of gambling. Preventive approaches;
- 10. Other (modern) forms of addictive behaviour I (addiction to computer games);
- 11. Other (modern) forms of addictive behaviour II (addiction to social networks);
- 12. Specific features of addiction in children and adolescents, professional assistance.

- The condition for completing the course is active participation in the seminars (participation 100%, possibility of 1 excused absence, more absences = substitute performance) and writing the final test (success rate 70%).
