Prerequisites
An interest on active participation on outcomes of the course. Good archaeological knowledge. The enrollment is not recommended for students of the 1st year of bachelor studes. Presence on lectures, or on distance lectures in case of distance education, is obligatory.

Course objectives
The aim of the course is to present the current efficient methods of popularisation of science results, involvement of non-professional public in positive perception of the mission of scholarly research in the field of humanities.
The popularisation methods will be presented in cooperation with external consultants; active attendance and practical training of students are expected.
The course has a direct connection to employment potential of graduates in the labour market, museum activities, archaeological parks, education and other areas of contact with non-professional public of various age.
Learning outcomes
After completion of the course, student will be able to:
- define the target group and analyse their needs
- choose the proper method of presentation for individual target groups
- elaborate the libretto of a presentation output, the economic, personal and temporal plan of realisation
- respond to topical trends in presentation media and methods
- work out the factual content of a professional presentation, summarize the data, structure them properly and make them understandable to non-professional public
- realize successfully the pilot popularisation output, by oneself or in a team
Syllabus
  • 1. Mission and goals of the popularisation of science, basic current methods relevant to archaeology
  • 2. Target group. Selection, definition, survey of needs, analysis
  • 3. Libretto of a popularisation output – professional data, their selection, structuring, conversion into popularising version
  • 4. Logistics, economy, human resources management, planning
  • 5. Popularisation lecture I – preparation. Improvement of oral presentation, speech therapy, direct speech, speech in media, recorded speech.
  • 6. Popularisation lecture II – realisation. Communication with target group. Involvement in discussion. Awakening the interest in further possibilities of gaining knowledge.
  • 7. Popularisation exhibition. Static exhibition, exhibition with direct explanation, tactile exhibition.
  • 8. Popularisation by involvement in activities – workshop on archaic production, refitting, sorting, imitation of archaeological activities, use of appliances, archaeological parks
  • 9. Presentation on archaeological site – information boards, QR codes and mobile technologies, geo-caching, inviting the press to running excavations
  • 10. Presentation in press, communication with editor, authorisation, selection and compression of information according to planned extent. Press report, interview, article.
  • 11. Printed presentation materials. Poster, leaflet, teaser in an event. Information selection, visual aspect, distribution.
  • 12. PR raised to the second power. Awakening the interest of the public in the planned popularisation output. Various forms of promotion.
