- Cíle předmětu
- The aim of the course is to introduce students to a specific methodological approach to the research of public events as cultural performances. Special attention will be paid to cultural performances taking place in public space such as demonstrations, manifestations, rallies, festivities etc. in Central Europe. Various theoretical and methodological concepts of the research of cultural and public events will be discussed with special attention paid to pefromance studies, social and cultural anthropology and sociology of culture.

- Students will be able to describe, analyse and understand performative and symbolic aspects of various past and contemporary public events.

- 1. Theatricality – history of the notion and approaches to the studies of public events as part of theatre science.
- 2. The concept of performativity, performative turn in social studies and humanities – most significant methodological concepts.
- 3. The concept of cultural performance
- 4. Analyses of important cultural performances throughout the history of Central Europe.
