- The course is intended for students of master degree studies. Basic knowledge on history of European baroque wall painting in 17th and 18th century and passive command of German is presupposed.

- Course objectives
- The course introduces selected specific approaches to the study of early modern wall paintings and provides overview of the field of “concettismo”.
- Learning outcomes
- After finishing the course student should be able to:
- describe and interpret a specific selected early modern fresco;
- show a basic knowledge of iconology and emblematics;
- describe basic technologies of early modern wall painting. - Syllabus
- Current approaches to the study of early modern ceiling paintings, their research (corpus of ceiling painting, its pluses and minuses; restoration of ceiling paintings in the past and today, technique and technology of the ceiling painting).
- “Concettismo”: concepts of paintings, contemporary published descriptions, iconology, emblematics.
- Ceiling painting and its relationship to the period graphic production.
- Interpretation of ceiling paintings in context of other interior artistic decorations.
- Quadrature, ceiling painting and architecture.
- Topics of this course are modified regarding artefacts and monuments available (especially restoration and renovation of wall paintings).
