- Course objectives
- The main objectives of the course are the follwing: making students familiar with the structure, content and the philosophical relveance of Platos Symposium; giving students basic orientation in other crucial dialogues on love and beauty, i.e. Phaedrus, Lysis, Ion; students should acquire the ability to read, understand and interpret platonic texts; students will learn to find in the texts aspects of Platos philosophical teaching on love and beauty that were presented systematically in the course Idea of beauty in Plato; students will practise the ability to connect creativelly the antient approach to the sphere of aesthetics with the contemporary one and to use all the acquired knowledge and abilities in the preparation of their seminar papers

- Every session of the seminar requires homework preparation in reading the assigned study literature. After teacher's presentation of the general and particular features of the subject, students are guided to interpretation of the chosen extracts, and class discussions follow.
