- Course objectives
- The seminar will offer an introduction into the language and metrics of the Aeolic lyrics of Sappho and Alkaios. At the end of the course students should be able to read and interpret lyrical poems of Sappho and Alkaios linguistically and philologically and to know the main features of the Aeolic language and the metrics of Sappho and Alkaios.
- Syllabus
- After an overview over the most important features of the Aeolic language and the main metres used by Sappho and Alkaios a linguistic and philological interpretation of selected lyrical poems of Sappho and Alkaios will follow. The seminar refers to students of Greek philology and Indo-European linguistics.
