- Latin for the Non-latinists II follows the course Latin for the Non-latinists I and is aimed to continue learning basic Latin grammar.
- Learning outcomes
- At the end of the course students will be able to:
- reproduce nominal and verbal paradigms studied within the course (see syllabus of the course);
- explain grammatical rules studied within the course;
- use basic Latin grammatical terminology associated with the grammar studied within the course;
- translate elementary Latin texts using a dictionary;
- explain the functions of selected syntactic structures;
- use synonymous expressive means to express selected grammatical phenomena;
- demonstrate relations between roots of selected Latin words and Czech loan words. - Syllabus
- 1st week: Deponent verbs.
- 2nd and 3rd week: 3rd declension adjectives, present participle, and its use.
- 4th and 5th week: Adverbs of 3rd declension adjectives, personal pronouns, possessive pronouns, demonstrative pronouns.
- 6th and 7th week: Double accusative construction, accusative with infinitive.
- 8th and 9th week: 4th and 5th declension, demonstrative pronouns.
- 10th and 11th week: Interrogative and relative pronouns, relative clauses; negative pronouns; pronominal adjectives.
- 12th and 13th week: Perfect indicative tense (active and passive voices) and perfect infinitive (active and passive voices).

- Lectures, practice (translation, grammar exercises). Regular class attendance and homework are required.
- Assessment methods
- A condition for the completion of the course is the successful completion of the final written test (70%), which tests the knowledge from lessons 8-13 and 18-19 of the textbook. A dictionary can be used during the test.
To pass the test, students must complete at least two continuous tasks in the form of ROPOT. These are divided into two levels of difficulty, from each of which the student must choose at least one and complete it by the required deadline.
If a student fails to meet any of the deadlines for an intermediate assignment, he/she will have to complete a total of four tasks (two from each level) on the extra deadline. Students cannot register for the final test without completing the assignments.
Another condition for admission to the test is that attendance must be met (a maximum of two unexcused absences are allowed, and absences may be made up in another seminar group in a given week). - Language of instruction

Students are asked to accomplish at least 2 tasks. The tasks are divided in 2 levels. Students have to choose at least one task from each level, work it out within a time limit and submit it in IS. If the student fails to meet the deadline, he/she will have to complete another assignment from each level by the end of the semester. - Latin for the Non-latinists II follows the course Latin for the Non-latinists I and is aimed to continue learning basic Latin grammar.
- Learning outcomes
- At the end of the course students will be able to:
- reproduce nominal and verbal paradigms studied within the course (see syllabus of the course);
- explain grammatical rules studied within the course;
- use basic Latin grammatical terminology associated with the grammar studied within the course;
- translate elementary Latin texts using a dictionary;
- explain the functions of selected syntactic structures;
- use synonymous expressive means to express selected grammatical phenomena;
- demonstrate relations between roots of selected Latin words and Czech loan words. - Syllabus
- Adverbs of 3rd declension adjectives, personal pronouns, possessive pronouns, demonstrative prononus.
- Double accusative construction, accusative with infinitive.
- 4th and 5th declension, demonstrative pronouns.
- Interrogative and relative pronouns, relative clauses; negative pronouns; pronominal adjectives.
- Comparison of adjectives and adverbs.
- Present and imperfect subjunctive mood (active and passive voices) of all conjugations and the verb esse. Their use in simple sentences.
- Use of present and imperfect subjunctive mood in subordinate clauses (UT clauses, cum historicum).
