- Course objectives
- The course wants to introduce students to a linguistic approach known as Axiomatic Functionalism (AF) which follows the tradition of Ferdinand de Saussure, Prague School and above all functionalism of the French linguist André Martinet.
- Learning outcomes
- At the end of the course the students will be able
- to explain the differences between AF and other structuralist and functionalist approaches
- to assess where AF is more effective in explaining linguistic problems and where not
- to summarize and formulate the principles of this approach
- to apply them to morphology, syntax and semantics - Syllabus

- Linguistic theory and metodology of description
- The use of the set theory in linguistic description
- Classification of semiotic systems and the theory of sign
- Morphological analysis and the problem of so-called cranberry morphemes
