Course objectives
The course NJIB003 is offered to students without any language level restrictions. No placement test is required. Evaluation of language competence will take place at the first meeting. In the case of a strongly heterogeneous group, students will be divided into subgroups according to their current language level. These groups will work in parallel, either accompanied by the tutor or independently, and will be given homework tasks adapted to their level, as well as a final credit test and a short interview taking into account their initial level of German language proficiency. In the first 6 sessions the emphasis will be on developing basic language competences (reading comprehension, listening, written and oral expression). General teaching materials will be used. In the second 6 sessions, the course will gradually concentrate more on the acquisition of the basic vocabulary of the field and the ability to communicate in more specialized discourse. The course will also focus on the specifics of writing German annotations for thesis projects in the subject area. Both independent and group work techniques will be used, using both traditional and digital teaching tools. Regular feedback will be given during the course as part of a formative assessment.
Learning outcomes
1. Development of basic language competences: Students will be able to comprehend readings, listen to speech and communicate effectively both written and orally in German at a level appropriate to their initial knowledge. 2.
