- Course objectives
- In this course I would like to explore with you the most diverse forms of German-language poetry: This will include classical forms such as sonnets and ballads as well as experimental forms (such as texts of language-playful concrete poetry and the collage poems of Herta Müller), but also, for example, song texts by contemporary German-language songwriters (e.g. Dota Kehr). A selection of texts from the Baroque to the present will be used as a basis, which will be made available via Moddle in the course of the semester and which can be supplemented by suggestions and wishes of the participants. A special focus will be on texts from the 20th and 21st centuries. In working with the texts, we want to gain an insight into the variety of possible forms of lyrical play with language on the one hand, and on the other hand, we want to explore various forms of working with poetic texts. The question of classifying the texts in terms of literary and contemporary history will thus be only one among many, because - as Hans Magnus Enzensberger wrote: "There is no one right way to read a poem.
- Learning outcomes
- Students get to know, different interpretative approaches to lyrical texts and can read texts as forms of intertextual play with other texts. They explore possibilities of creative language work, learn about complex possibilities of linguistic meaning-making and can use them for their own writing in the foreign language.
