Course objectives
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the beginnings of debates on equality, with the development of various views on equality in society with an emphasis on education, not only in the Czech but also in the international context. It will be mainly about national and international development and the current state of three types of equal education: equal educational opportunities (equality of input), equal conditions (equality during education) and equal results (equality of outcomes). Students will learn about theories related to the concepts of equality, as well as be acquainted with the most pressing challenges of current education systems in the field of equality (both at the level of educational policy and at the level of schools themselves). Last but not least, more detailed space will be devoted to groups of pupils/students who are traditionally described as discriminated against in certain respects (pupils with disabilities, gender issue of pupils, pupils of different ethnicity, etc.).
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student will be able to: - identify and summarize important features of the main periods of the history of equality in education - identify and describe current domestic and foreign trends in the field of equal educational opportunities - describe the factors that influence the current state of equality in education - compare and highlight differences in types of educational policy - apply the principles of equal educational opportunities to specific situations - analyze current scientific knowledge in the field of equal educational opportunities

Equal educational results (outcomes). 5. Challenges in gaining equal educational opportunities in different parts of the world and at different stages of education. 6. Various vulnerable groups in education and ways of their support.

Teaching methods
The course will be organized in the form of lectures and seminars. Students will be guided to actively participate in the topics discussed, they will be invited to regularly read the literature, its reflection and subsequent discussion. Students will also be guided to design solutions to the challenges discussed. Such a procedure will develop students in critical thinking as well as in communication competencies, where the course will aim at conducting professional discussions in which the opinion of individuals will be respected, and students will learn to defend their opinion.
