Course objectives
After the completion of the course the motivated students will be able to:
provide an overview of part of the work of key scholars of German philosophy of 20th and 21st centuries; each selected scholar will be introduced in connection with a key work or a theme representing his or her focus.
Learning outcomes
On the basis of the lectures and their individual studies of primary literature, students should be able to understand and interpret some of the major themes, problems and arguments of selected German philosophers, and gain insight into the ideas of contemporary German philosophy, also utilizing actively the links and other materials in e-learning course. The motivated student will be introduced to a possible delineation of German philosophy (using the examples of V. Hössle a L. Ferry), to the axis of ideas, structure, focus and context of Benjamin´s work "Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction", to the structure and arguments of "Dialectic of Enlightment", to the activity of the Ritter school, and to the key themes in the works of H. Blumenberg and O. Marquard. By means of a probe into the theme of stress and freedom, students will be introduced into P. Sloterdijk´s method of philosophy, by means of the work of H. M. Enzensberger, they will map the overlap between philosophy and literature, and by means of Liessmannˇs theory of ignorance, they will inquire into ideas of the transformation of education since Adorno´s theory of half education until now.

Assessment methods
End of term: oral exam, the essay.
Before the exam itself: written essay - at least 4 pages.
Topic: a student chooses the topic, which will be approved by a tutor before the end of the course.
The essays will involve a proclamation that the author used only sources stated in a list of literature and that neither the essay or its part has been used in order to receive other credits within the study at Masaryk University.
Another important condition for passing the exam is knowledge of compulsory literature.
