Course objectives
The introduction to problems of translation of informative, factual, publicistic and lierary texts. Students will be taught to analyze factual texts, understand their specifics and translate them adequately from a source language (foreign) into a target language (mother tongue) and vice versa. Translation procedures are practiced on texts of thematic field of administrative, managing and business problems. Focus on work with dictionaries and information sources.

Syllabus
  • 1. Fundamental types and genres of factual texts
  • 2. Main principles and individual aspects of a complex language analysis of factual texts from the point of view of translation
  • 3. Translatological minimum (types of translation, problems of equivalence and ways of translation transformations)
  • 4. Typological differences between Polish and Czech from the point of view of translation
  • 5. Equivalence on a graphic and orthographic level of the text (transcription of proper names)
  • 6. Types of lexical equivalence from the point of view of similarity and differences of form and content
  • 7. Equivalency of language devices from a stylistic point of view
  • 8. Problems of translation of Polish and Czech life and institutions
  • 9. Elements of artistic translation
  • 10. Practical and technical aspects of translation
