Course objectives
At the end of the course, the students should know practical applications of major classes of psychotherapeutic treatments and psychotherapeutic methods in clinical practice. The attention will be given to psychotherapeutic applications both in adults and in children and adolescents. The part of adult psychotherapy gets students familiar with use of psychotherapy in crisis intervention, in schizophrenia and psychotic disorders, depression, anxiety disorders, obsessive – compulsive disorder and in addiction. Special focus will be on use of psychotherapy in oncology patients and in pain management. The part of psychotherapy of children and adolescents involves a general overview of psychotherapy in pediatric psychiatry patients, problem of autistic children, and psychosomatics in pediatric population. It will also deal with applications of psychotherapy in pediatric oncology patients and in healthy children in a difficult life situation (like a divorce one, etc.). Teaching includes lectures a well as practical training. Lectures cover general principles of applied psychotherapy, while practical training focuses on practical applications.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the students will be able to: • be familiar with the basic applications of psychotherapy in adults; • be familiar with the basic applications of psychotherapy in children and adolescents; • understand the practical application of psychotherapy in major classes of psychotherapeutic treatments.

  • 1. Therapeutic community in the treatment of addiction;
  • 2. Principles of psychotherapy in persons with addiction;
  • 3. Specifics of psychotherapy in schizophrenia and other psychoses;
  • 4. Psychotherapy in depression;
  • 5. Crisis intervention – principles, organization, basics of therapeutic work;
  • 6. Mid-life crisis – concept, symptoms, therapeutic work;
  • 7. Basic possibilities of psychotherapy in anxiety disorders;
  • 8. Treatment of agoraphobia by the most commonly used "exposure" technique, its advantages and disadvantages, other treatment options for agoraphobia;
  • 9. Cognitive-behavioral model of obsessive compulsive disorder and its CBT treatment;
  • 10. Definition of psycho-oncology;
  • 11. Psychosocial aspects involved in cancer development;
  • 12. Psychosocial factors and disease development;
  • 13. Psychologist intervention in the treatment of cancer;
  • 14. The basic phases of cancer experience;
  • 15. Forms of psychological therapeutic intervention in cancer patients;
  • 16. Specifics of child and adolescent psychosomatic disorder;
  • 17. Psychotherapy of encopresis and enuresis;
  • 18. Psychotherapy of eating disorders;
  • 19. Psychotherapy of selected psychosomatic diseases (bronchial asthma, dermatoses, obesity, recurrent fever);
  • 20. Conversion disorder in children and adolescents;
  • 21. Specifics of the development of families and children with pervasive diagnosis (therapeutic topics in working with families, demands on the therapist);
  • 22. Therapeutic options, directions and methods in children with neurodevelopmental disorders (autism, mental retardation) - critical evaluation;
  • 23. Psychotherapy of children in residential facilities;
  • 24. Psychotherapy of CAN syndrome (abuse, neglect, Münchhausen's syndrome by proxy);
  • 25. Psychotherapy of children during divorce and family breakdown;
  • 26. Psychotherapy of children with severe somatic diagnosis (oncological diseases, post-injury conditions, pediatric thanatology).
