Course objectives
The aim of the course is to practically familiarize students with modern technologies used in psychological research, specifically for measuring behavioral, physiological and sensorimotor activity of a person. Students will be able to transfer this knowledge to the creation of a psychological research design. In addition to lectures and self-study, the course includes practical demonstrations of various technologies for measuring a person (virtual reality, biosignal, eye-tracking).
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student will be able to: - understand modern technologies used for psychological research; - critically evaluate the benefits of modern technologies for behavioral and sensorimotor measurements; - understand the relationship between measured variables and inferred cognitive phenomena; - consider the appropriate use of modern technologies for creating one's own research design;

  • 1. Ecological validity in the context of modern instrumental measurement 2. Eye-tracking methods for sensorimotor activity research 3. Computer testing and its limitations 4. Recording and analysis of motor activity using the MoCap system 5. Virtual reality in psychological and behavioral research 6. Excursions and demonstrations of selected technologies for the purposes of psychological research 7. Physiological measurements and biosignals for the purposes of psychological research

Teaching methods
Lectures, seminars, class discussions, practical demonstration of equipment and technologies. Part of the course is self-study - i.e. home theoretical preparation and study of available literature. The course also includes writing a written paper - an essay on a selected topic.
Assessment methods
The condition for awarding credit is 75% attendance at lectures/seminars and active participation in discussion at seminars, active participation in demonstrations of research tools, and writing an essay. The essay, in which the student chooses and critically evaluates one selected modern technology in the context of psychological research that he/she encountered during the course, has a required length of 5 NS of text without the introduction and cited sources. The work will be based on current expert sources. The condition for awarding credit is submitting the written essay to the IS submission office.
