Course objectives
The proseminar is an introductory course to archival studies. The subject gives an overview of the basic encyclopedic and academic literature and looks more closely at the individual auxiliary historical sciences. The main objectives of the course are: to develop practical skills in reading old documents; examine the academic terms contained within them.
Learning outcomes
After comleting the course, the student will be able to:
- characterise the individual auxiliary historical sciences
- a basic knowledge of working with sources
- read text legibly written in old script
- analyse information from source texts at a basic level

  • Reading selected German texts;
  • Reading selected Latin texts;
  • introduction to textual analysis.
