Course objectives
The aim of this course is to acquaint students with problems of various sources in the Czech lands since the early modern period to the early 19th century and their editorial access. It introduces students to the functioning of the patrimonial office, cataloguing of the sphragistics material, tax systems issues, functioning of the wine law. There is a focus on the providing a balanced picture of exploring the essential aspects of modern history.
Learning outcomes
At the end of this course, students will be able to understand the selected apsects of studying modern sources. Attention will be focused to training of reading texts and their transcription.
Syllabus
  • Introduction to the study.
  • Basic knowledge of the subject from diplomatic, administrative and legal perspectives; transcription and interpretation of specific entries.
  • Basics of cataloging of the sphragistics material.
  • Introduction to the tax systems issues.
  • Introduction to the issue of the operation of the patrimonial office.
  • Documents in early modern period, classification and typology of official books.
  • Intorduction to the issue of the functioning of the wine law.
  • Recapitulation (summary of the theory, one lesson dedicated to practical presentations, reading and transcription practice).
