- Course objectives
- The aim of the seminar is to gain advanced knowledge of the medieval German used in the charters and their comparison to latin examples, especially of the sections that include forms. The students should be able to improve their language and interpretation skills as well as acquiring a wider understanding of the diplomatic terminology in German.
- Learning outcomes
- After completing the course, students will be able to independently read and interpret Late Medieval charters, letters and other diplomatic sources from princely, aristocratic, patrimonial and town offices written in Early New High German, and use the available language and interpretive dictionaries .
- Syllabus
- In the seminar we will read and discuss different types of charters (Private charters) in German. The templates will consist of facsimiles (original charters and their copies) and editions.

- The seminar will be certified according to the student´s participation during the lessons and a written test at its conclusion, which consists of the transcription and interpretation of a charter.
