Course objectives
The aim of the course is to acquaint participants with the development of Neo-Gothic script from the 16th to the 20th century. The main focus will be on reading the most common types of archival documents to practice practical skills in interpreting and reading texts written in Neo-Gothic script (especially Kurrentschrift). The material will predominantly cover the 18th to 20th centuries, with appropriate attention given to selected genealogical sources.
Learning outcomes
Students will be able to: • - carry out a transliteration or transcription of the most common types of Neo-Gothic script;
• - read the script from the most common types of records from the 16th to the 20th centuries;
• - develop abbreviations and use basic palaeographic manuals.
