No knowledge of music theory or knowledge of Greek is required to complete the course successfully.
To fulfil the course objectives requires the student's interaction with the teacher; therefore, it is necessary to have functional technical equipment (microphone, camera and sound output).

Course objectives
The course aims to provide a comprehensive view of the main aspects of Greek music in terms of music theory, notation, history and interpretation. The main stages of development in the history of Greek music will be discussed, i.e. Ancient Greek music, Byzantine chant, folk music, as well as the Greek musical trends of the 20th century, i.e. rembetiko, entechno (έντεχνο), etc. The course will also include a presentation of the work of renowned Greek composers such as I. Xenakis and N. Skalkottas.

In addition to the lectures, the course will also include an analysis of musical compositions by using recordings of musical works of relevant historical periods and styles.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student will be able to:
- understand the main stages of the development of Greek music from antiquity to the music of the 21st century;
- identify and summarize important features of the main stages of the history of Greek music;

Teaching methods
Lectures followed by a class discussion upon the selected musical compositions.
Assessment methods
Requirements for obtaining the credit are at least 80% attendance at classes and successful passing of the oral exam, in which the student's knowledge of the subject will be examined.
