Course objectives
Introduction to Psychology. The goal is to provide a knowledge of applied psychology and suggestions for its practical application in personal life. The main focus lies in deeper knowledge of own personality and personality of others and in managing stressing situations with the goal to reach better life's adaptation.
Syllabus
  • Introduction to Psychology should offer to students the pieces of information of applied psychology and topics for its practical application in one's life. The main focus lies in deeper knowledge of oneself and personality of others and in managing stressing situations with the goal to reach better life's adaptation. Topics: 1. Subjective perception of the objective reality. How to defend oneself against the misinterpretation of the perception of the world and man. Reception and elaboration of information - perception schemes - anticipation and aperception in the perception. Attention and memory in the process of knowledge, the development and critique. 2. Mind and intelligence. Dynamic and leading element in the process of knowledge (making of the images, the speed of the association, readiness of the mind - determinating trends in the process and contents of knowledge). Intelligence, intellect, creativity, functional literacy - structurated wholeness of rational abilities. The methods of logical judgement in non-verbal test of intelligence. 3. Personality - its key role in the system of psychology. Functional system of personality. Relative analysis of personality (dynamism, structure, development). Approach - definition - typology. 4. The question of cognition of personality. Methods necessary, advisable, and suitable. Methods less trusty, methods questionable, and unreliable. Some factors and dimensions of personality in questionnaires. 5. Self-knowledge - a mean to self-improvement. Self-reflection. "Myself" real, percepted, ideal, presented. Possibilities and methods of self-knowledge. Interpersonal diagnoses. 6. Personality in a norm and patology. Criterions of normality. Abnormality. "Specific personalities" - what to do with them. 7. Difficult life situations. Stress and factors making stress. The influence of stress for the psychical balance of a man. 8. Psychical hygiene - the management of difficult situations. Basic principles of psychical hygiene. Relaxating and motivating methods.
