- Course objectives
- The lecture will deal with the Pre-Socratic philosophy. First of all it will talk about the ideas about the origin and development of the Universe. We will study mainly the fragments of Pre-Socratics and we will discuss their various interpretations. The students will meet also the methodology of the work with these fragments.
- Syllabus
- 1. The question of founts. 2. Mythological cosmogonies. 3. Cosmological ideas of Milesians. 4. Pythagorean ideas about the Universe (the Cosmos). 5. Heraclitus. 6. The Eleatics. 7. The combination of Heraclitus' teaching about progress and change with the Eleatics' teaching about the steadfastness (permanency) of Being.
