Course objectives
The course gives a concise survey of English language use and its interpretation on the basis of the speech act theory, the Cooperative Principle and the Politeness Principle, Grice's theory of implicature, irony and other interesting questions dealing with pragmatic meaning. The phenomena will be systematically studied through text analysis.
