- Develompent and main problems of the portriat painting in the European art from the 14th to the 18th century.

- Term of the portrait painting, theoretical background, types of the portraits. 1. Origin of the portrait painting. 2. Jan van Eyck, Portrait of Arnolfinis - problem of the iconological interpretation of the portrait painting. 3. Pierro della Francesca, Federigo da Montefeltre and his wife Battista Sforza. 4. Raffael, Poet Baldasare Castiglione. 5. Tizian, Equestrial portrait of the Emperor Charles V. - type of the equestrial portrait. 6. Giuseppe Arcimboldo, Emeror Rudolph II. as Vertumnus - type of the alegorical portrait. 7. P. P. Rubens, Artists selfportrait with Isabella Brant. 8. Rembrandt's late autoportraits - type of the painter's selfsportrait. 9. Anthonis van Dyck, English King Charles I. and his consort - problem of the double-portrait. 10. Frans Hals, Guverness of the men poorhouse in Haarlem and the Dutch Group-portrait. 11. Velazquez, Las Meninas. 12.
