Course objectives
The lecture will deal with the attitude of the Czech state (i.e. various offices of state control) to cinematography during the whole period of its existence up to the beginning of the 90s. It will examine the model established by the Austrian state, and the ways this model changed in the following years of the independent republic, and during the WWII Protectorate. Then, it will take a closer look at the Czech cinematography in terms of the postwar process of its nationalization, its new institutionalization, the interventions of the Communist party after 1948, the modifications of the relationship between the party and the state in the 60s, i.e. the time of its boom, and its stagnation during the following two decades.
