- In order to be admitted to the B. A. exam (the comprehensive exam in Latin language and literature), a student must have obtained the required number of credits in their subject (viz. the requirements for credits A), must have successfully finished the courses compulsory for all students at the Faculty of Arts and must have fulfilled the required readings: Caesar: Bell. Gall. I, IV, VI; By heart: I 1, 1-3 for the qualifying examination (postupová zkouška) after the 1st year of studies. Cicero: In Catilinam I (for the examination in Latin normative grammar after the 2nd year of studies); Pro Archia poeta; De imperio Pompei; Laelius de amicitia (credits gained after the 2nd year of studies - zápočet; prerequisite for the B. A. exam); Tusculanae disputations (Book I) - for the B. A. exam. Sallustius: Catilinae coniuratio for the examination in Latin normative grammar after the 2nd year of studies. Ovidius: Met. I 1-415; II 1-328; III; IV 55-166; VI 143-381; VIII 183-235; 616-724; X 1-77; XV 871-887. Trist. IV 10. By heart: Met. I 1-4, 89-112; XV 871-879. Credits for the reading of Ovidius should be gained at the end of the 2nd year of studies (prerequisite for the B. A. exam). Vergilius: Aeneis I, II, IV, VI; Buc. I, IV; Georg. I 1-5, II 458-474. By heart: Buc. I 1-10; Georg. I, 1-15 for the B. A. exam. Livius: Ab urbe condita I, XXI for the B. A. exam.

- Course objectives
- The B. A. state exam consists of a written and an oral part; a student takes both parts in the same exam period. The exam begins with the written part. The dates of the comprehensive exam (usually there are two in each exam period) are announced by the head of the department on the notice board so that students can sign up.

- Detailed knowledge of Latin normative grammar: vol. I and II of F. Novotnýs grammar: Základní latinská mluvnice, Praha 1957 (and later editions); the script by A. Bartoněk, J. Janda, E. Kamínková, B. Mouchová, E. Kuťáková: Latinská syntaktická cvičení, Praha 1993 (and later editions); detailed knowledge of Latin stylistics: § 960-1038 (theory of style) of vol. II of Historická mluvnice latinského jazyka by F. Novotný, Praha 1955.
- Knowledge of linguistic terminology, general knowledge of the languages of the ancient Mediterranean.
- Detailed knowledge of the development of Roman literature and the awareness of its connections with the main developments in Greek literature: Dějiny řecké literatury by L. Canfora and Dějiny římské literatury by G. B. Conte.
- General knowledge of the sciences dealing with antiquity, their place in the complex of social sciences, their disciplines and scientific methodology.
- A part of the exam is also the Introduction to Latin Studies: viz. Latin Proseminar.
