- Course objectives
- In the lecture and seminar the students will gradually acquire knowledge of the Early and Late Stone Age in the territory of Central Europe and an overview of the basic cultures and issues. They will also learn to recognize archaeological material of the Neolithic and Eneolithic. A stress will be laid on the summary of development of the views on the studied primeval epoch, and also on the issues of the individual development stages within the Early and Late Stone Age. New and problematic knowledge that ensue from the current status of research ant the most recent theories will also be referred to, as well as the differences of the Early and Late Stone Age not only in material culture, but also in the spiritual sphere.

- 9. Early Lengyel cultures in the territory of Central Europe. Geographical demarcation and mutual synchronization. Basic sources of material culture. 10. Polgár cultural complex and its influences in Central Europe. Geographical demarcation, classification and sources. The latest findings. 10. Beginning of the Eneolithic in Central Europe. Early and Late Eneolithic. Issues of periodization of the Eneolithic. Specifics of the development and the current issues. Funnel Beakers and other chronologically related cultures in Central Europe. Material culture and its specifics. 11. Middle Eneolithic. Baden Pottery culture. Geographical spreading and cultural relations. Periodization and material culture. Outline of the most recent issues. 12. Early Eneolithic cultures in Central Europe. Intervention of the Vucedol circle, globular amphoras, influences from Central Germany. Lažňany, Polgár and Bodrogkeresztúr cultures in Eastern Slovakia etc. Geographical spreading and the specificity of development. 13. People with Corded Ware culture in Central Europe. Chlopice-Veselé group. East-Slovakian mounds. Geographical and cultural relations. Material culture and its specifics. The question of Indo-Europeans. 14. People with Funnel Beaker culture in Central Europe. Spreading and a chronology. Symbiosis with people of Corded Ware culture. Sources of knowledge and the general issues. 15. End of the Eneolithic. Proto-Únětice culture. Special developments trends within Central Europe and the differences in the individual regions. Basic issues.
