Course objectives
This course is drawn up as an introduction into the social and economic relationships of the Central-European countryside in the 16th–17th century. There is put an accent especially on comprehension of countryside as a living space and on description of its inside arrangement and functioning of its individual components. Education will be held in a form of lectures and combined with a seminar way of work.
Syllabus
  • Hierarchy of the rustic society arrangement and its particular groups. Further structural units of the country. Microworld of the villager – family, its particular components and their position. Special social groups and their position. Obligations of serfs. Forms of life of serfs in the subjective towns and provincial towns, relationship between the town and village. View of the country through the eyes of aristocracy, town, and church.
