Course objectives
At the end of this course students will able to:
- read and translate a simple medieval Latin text (chronicle, legend, hymn, sequence, epic poetry, charter, letter, exemplum and the like)
- comprehend specific features of medieval Latin pertaining to its graphical forms, morphology and style

  • 5. Prose - letter.
  • 6. Prose - legend.
  • 8. Medieval Latin poetry - hymns, sequences.
  • 9. Secular lyric poetry, goliard poetry.
  • 10. Poetry with chivalric and animal content.
  • 11. Charter.

Teaching methods
One 1.5 hours class per week consisting of a lecture and a seminar.
Assessment methods
Requirements for credit: oral examination where students are obliged to show the ability to translate simple medieval Latin text as well as to describe elementary features of Medieval Latin. Class attendance is required.
