- Course objectives
- In the end of this course the students should understand better the modern brazilian society, his culture and way of life. From this point they should be prepared to interpretate from a critical point of view the daily problems faced by brazilian people, taking academic texts and discussions as development bases.
- Syllabus
- In this discipline we'll explore the complexities regarding the social-political and cultural environment present in the daily life in Brazil. The chronic problems and the strong points of brazilian roots will be boarded in depth of a critical point of view. These are some of the topics to be discussed in our classes: - The historical moments which helped to build the modern national identity
- - The political problems in Brazil
- - The historical social problems
- - The roots of brazil urban violence
- - The social manifestations in Brazil

- Teaching methods
- The classes will be pointed by oral explanations, group discussions, readings and video presentations related with the subjects.
- Assessment methods
- In the end of this course, the students will present a final paper regarding some topic boarded in classroom. Paralel projects can be requested to explore the issues more properly.
