Course objectives
At the end of the course students should be able to understand the wider political context and the state of cultural policy in the post-war Europe. They will be able to reflect on the changes in the film industries of Czechslovakia, Poland and GDR. Students will get a knowledge of the relation between film industry and the governmental bodies and will be able to use the tool of comparative analysis.
Syllabus
  • - methodological introduction: comparative analysis - methodological and historical introduction: the concept of "sovietization" - cultural policy and film industry in the post-war Czechoslovakia - cultural policy and film industry in the post-war GDR - cultural policy and film industry in the post-war Poland - a comparison of the cultural-policy and the structure of the film industry in the respective countries
