- At the end of the course the successful student will be able to define the concepts of fact and value; formulate precisely the problem of deriving values from facts; reproduce and assess some historically significant attempts at bridging the gap between facts and values; describe the ambitions of contemporary empirical sciences to resolve the problem of facts and values and assess them critically.
