- Course objectives
- The purpose of this course is to orientate students in the art od the second half of the 20th century. At the end of this course students should be able to interpret important tendencies and works of this period.
- Syllabus
- 1. American abstract expressionism (Pollock, de Kooning, Kline). C. Greenberg and art criticism.; 2. Abstract art in Europe: informel, tachism (Hartung, Wols, Fautrier, Dubuffet).; 3. Abstraction and figuration (Giacometti, Bacon, Balthus).; 4. Czech art of the 40s and 50s; 5. Pop art in British (Hamilton, the exhibition This it Tomorrow) and American art (Rauschenberg, Johns, Warhol, Lichtenstein, Oldenburg).; 6. New realism and Yves Klein. ; 7. L. Fontana and the question of space and time. Kinetism and experiment (Schöffer). Fluxus.; 8. Minimalism (Judd, Morris, Sol leWitt, Andre), concept art and land art.; 9. Czech art of the 60s and after.;; 10. Modern and postmodern art.
