Course objectives
The course provides an overview of knowledge about Albanians and their cultural realities.
Amount of space is devoted to linguistic and litterary, as well as ethnological and historical themes.
Syllabus
  • Albanistika in the world and in our country.
  • The territory populated by Albanians. The Albanian diaspora. Ethnonymum. National symbols.
  • The theory of ethnogenesis. Question of Illyrian-Albanian continuity.
  • Albanian: genetic, typological and areal classification, periodization, foreign influences.
  • Tosks and Ghegs: cultural and dialectal differences.
  • Albanian folk literature: heroic epics, ballads and fairy tales in Czech translations.
  • Albanian culture at the turn of the Middle Ages and modern times. The origin of the Albanian literature.
  • The specifics of the Albanian national revival.
  • The Albanian language question in the 20th century.
