Cíle předmětu
The intensive course aims at a critical close reading of James Joyce’s two early works, Dubliners (1914) and A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man. Students are expected to have read the two books prior to the start of the seminar. The two editions to be worked with (plus a work of annotative criticism) are specified below – and will be accessible in an electronic format well ahead of the commencement of the course. Everyone welcome.

Metody hodnocení
In order to receive a credit for the course, students are expected to have read and studied (with the help of the Gifford) the texts in advance, to participate actively (i.e. to engage in a discussion over them) in the course, and to write a research paper on a topic of their choice. This final paper must be around 2,500 words, MLA-style formatting, submitted within a month after the end of the course, i.e. March 12.
